Pendulums: What They Are and How to Use Them

What is a Pendulum

Pendulums are a great way to learn more about your intuition and the energy around you. They can be used for healing, divination, and self-knowledge. They are also great tools for asking and answering questions.

The actual pendulum is a weight on the end of a chain or string that swings back and forth in response to your own energy fields as a way of communicating with your High self. You can use this motion as an indicator for yes or no answers when asking questions.

Often people will use a pendulum to help them decide between options and make decisions. It’s also great for finding lost items!

How To Use a Pendulum

  • Begin by holding the string loosely in one hand so that it hangs straight down between your thumb and first finger, with the weight resting near their tips but not touching them. Give yourself time to let go of any expectations that could influence how you hold it - don't overthink it!

  • Ask your question out loud or silently in your mind, keeping it simple and direct. For example: “Is my answer yes?” or “Is this person honest?” (Don't ask more than one question at a time)

Caring for Your Pendulum

It's best to cleanse your pendulum regularly, but you can also use your pendulum to cleanse other things. The following method will help you keep your pendulum in good condition for a long time:

  • Hold the chain and dangle the stone from it so that it hangs over a bowl of salt water.

  • Lightly tap the surface of the water with your pendulum several times while meditating on cleansing energy flowing into the stone through its core.

  • After several minutes, remove your pendulum from over the bowl and set it down on a towel or piece of fabric. Let it dry overnight before using it again.
